A duo described as young, new and exciting, the Wilswood Buoys will be making their Reading debut when they come to The Face Bar next week.

Hailing from Essex’s Mersea Island in Essex the pair are currently cutting their name into the UK underground scene.

It’s said they mix trad folk, with modern alternative acoustic pop. The band has a sound that’s raw, fresh, familiar, and accessible.

Who are the Wilswood Buoys?

Josh and Joe are the Wilswood Buoys, and like many bands, are a couple of mates who, from simply getting together for a jam, saw things quickly escalate into writing music and playing local gigs.

Both had a completely different upbringing in terms of musical styles, leading them down a path of intertwined genres worked into one, with a thread of catchy riffs, natural chemistry, and big, bold choruses.

Two years ago, they went on their first UK tour with Frank Turner. They followed that up with support for The Levellers on their acoustic tour. Additionally, the Wilswood Buoys have played many festival,s including Boomtown Fair and Northern Kin Festival.

Frank Turner also produced their acclaimed debut album A New Beginning, which was released in January 2023. It is an album crammed full of barnstorming sing-a-longs ready to unleash on audiences across the UK and beyond.

They have been described as “Melodic, foot-stamping folk” by Americana UK.

Who will be performing with Wilswood Buoys?

Reading favourite Jess Tuthill will be delivering some of her heartfelt, emotional and life-affirming songs.

Completing the line-up is Grace Pounds. Club Velocity, which is organising the gig, says that she is an artist that you should write on a piece of paper and store in a cupboard and come back in, say, three years. By then, the wider world will be aware of her greatness.

When and where will The Wilswood Buoys perform?

The gig is organised by Club Velocity, and takes place at the Rising Sun Arts Centre.

This is in Silver Street, Reading RG1 2ST.

It takes place on Friday, May 30, from 8pm.

Tickets cost £11, and are available from https://wegottickets.com/event/650534
