Ellen DeGeneres, one of the most recognisable names in comedy and television, is heading to Reading this autumn.

The American entertainer will appear at The Hexagon on Friday 10 October 2025 at 7.30pm for an evening of conversation, looking back over her career in stand-up, television, film, and beyond.

Ellen DeGeneres cut her teeth in New Orleans comedy clubs before becoming a household name with the 1990s sitcom Ellen, which ran from 1994 to 1998.

In 1997, she made television history when her character came out as gay in the so-called “Puppy Episode”, a landmark moment in US television watched by 46 million viewers.

She also is a much loved talk show host. The Ellen DeGeneres Show ran for 19 seasons until 2022, winning an impressive 64 Daytime Emmy Awards, including 12 for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show. It was the most awarded programme in that category.

She also became the most decorated individual in the People’s Choice Awards’ 45-year history, with 24 wins.

Ellen DeGeneres had the honour of being the host for two Academy Awards ceremonies, recorded some special stand-up sets for the US TV HBO specials and, with Netflix, shows such as Relatable (2018) and For Your Approval (2024).

In film, she is best known as the voice of Dory in Pixar’s Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, the latter of which crossed the billion-dollar mark at the global box office.Alongside performing, she has developed a production company, A Very Good Production, behind shows including Ellen’s Game of Games and Little Big Shots.

She has also launched books, lifestyle and design brands, and in 2021 co-founded the age-positive skincare line Kind Science.

And her Ellen Fund supports conservation projects such as the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund campus in Rwanda.

If that wasn’t enough, she has been awarded one of the US’ highest honours: the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by President Obama in 2016.

With more than 300 million followers across social media, DeGeneres remains one of the world’s most influential comedians, and this Hexagon appearance offers audiences in Reading a rare chance to hear her reflect on her journey so far, in one of just a handful of UK appearances this autumn.
