Comedy legend John Cleese is set to appear on the big screen this autumn in a new feature-length documentary capturing what may be his final stand-up tour.

John Cleese Packs It In follows the 85-year-old comedian as he goes across Europe on a whirlwind six-week journey through 16 cities and 23 shows.

The behind-the-scenes film promises a candid look at John Cleese’s life on the road, his reflections on six decades in comedy, and the struggles of touring at his age.

Audiences can expect an unfiltered John Cleese, dealing with chaotic travel – echoing his 1980s film Clockwise, health setbacks and the stubborn refusal to slow down.

At the same time, the film revisits highlights of his long career.

He started in the Cambridge Footlights, graduated to television in shows such as The Frost Report and At Last The 1948 Show before launching Monty Python and Fawlty Towers.

He has also appeared in numerous films including A Fish Called Wanda and more recent film roles in the Harry Potter, James Bond and Shrek franchises.

Speaking about the release, John Cleese said audiences would see “not just the dashing, devil-may-care, devastatingly handsome bon viveur, but also the decrepit, addled, nasty old geriatric that my PR team work day and night to hide from the public.”

The documentary is being released in cinemas by CinemaLive, who described it as a chance to “meet the man behind the comedy legend”.

The documentary will be shown in more than 350 cinemas across the UK from Thursday 13 November 2025 — including screenings at Vue Reading, Showcase Cinema de Lux Winnersh and South Hill Park.
