SUMMARY:EHG and Goat Whore
DESCRIPTION:EHG is an American sludge metal band from New Orleans\, who formed in 1988\, and have become one of the better known bands to emerge from the NOLA metal scene. \n\n\n\nTheir core lineup has remained consistent since the band’s inception\, with the exception of the bassist (the role of which has been filled by several musicians over the years)\, until the death of drummer Joey LaCaze in 2013. \n\n\n\nAs of 2021\, the band has released six studio albums. \n\n\n\nEHG have noted Melvins\, The Obsessed\, Discharge\, Black Flag\, Black Sabbath and Celtic Frost as key influences to their sound. \n\n\n\nHeavy\, detuned\, and blues guitar riffs dominate the band’s discography. \n\n\n\nThey are combined with walls of feedback\, and tortured vocals. \n\n\n\nGoatwhore was formed by guitarist/backing vocalist Sammy ‘Pierre’ Duet\, who was previously the lead guitarist for Louisiana sludge metal band Acid Bath. \n\n\n\nThe band’s origins can date back to 1991 with Sammy and drummer Zak Nolan. \n\n\n\nThe band was at the time called Killgore with Duet on lead guitar and vocals and Zak Nolan on drums. \n\n\n\nKillgore would release a number of demos up until 1997 when they changed their name to Goatwhore\, after Acid Bath dissolved due to the death of bassist Audie Pitre. \n\n\n\nSolent Green lead vocalist Louis Benjamin Falgoust II\, rhythm guitarist Ben Stout and bassist Pat Bruders completed the lineup\, which debuted with the demo Serenades to the Tides of Blood; Goatwhore’s official debut LP\, The Eclipse of Ages into Black followed in early 2000. \n\n\n\nFuneral Dirge for the Rotting Sun appeared in 2003 before the band jumped to Metal Blade for the fall release of 2006’s A Haunting Curse.

SUMMARY:A Christmas knees up with John Otway
DESCRIPTION:Club Velocity and New Mind presents John Otway’s annual Christmas Knees Up. \n\n\n\nSupport from Damien A Passmore and The Loveable Fraudsters: ‘the greatest\, the tallest\, and the best cowpunk-country band in all the land’. \n\n\n\nJOHN OTWAY is an English singer-songwriter who has built a sizeable cult audience through extensive touring\, a surreal sense of humour and a self-deprecating underdog persona. From the age of 9\, John Otway knew he wanted to be a pop star. But even at that young age\, having listened to his sister’s Beatles and Stones records\, he knew he would never be able to do what they do. However\, when his sister got the latest Bob Dylan album\, he knew there was a place for him and he set about learning how to play guitar. \n\n\n\nA visit to a fortune teller would have a profound effect on the young Otway. \n\n\n\nAfter gazing into her crystal ball\, she confirmed that Otway would indeed be a star and would have success with a blonde-haired musician. \n\n\n\nOtway took this prediction very seriously and teamed up with Wild Willy Barrett (the only musician he knew who fitted the fortune teller’s description). In 1972\, the pair released their first single. \n\n\n\nGypsy/Misty Mountain was a dedication to the fortune teller who had assured Otway that fame and stardom was just around the corner. \n\n\n\nThe single would be the first of a string of flops\, but it did capture the attention of The Who’s Pete Townshend who offered to produce a number of tracks for the duo… \n\n\n\nJohn’s visit to Reading has become a real Christmas tradition for the town.

SUMMARY:Scott Lavene
DESCRIPTION:Scott Lavene is coming to The Face Bar in December\n\n\n\nClub Velocity and New Mind present Scott Lavene in concert. \n\n\n\nHave we ever needed great storytellers so badly? \n\n\n\nVoices to snap us out of our collective grey funk\, to pull us out of our narrow\, hemmed-in worlds and to lighten our days and enlighten us with their perspectives\, immersing us in their worldview and history. \n\n\n\nPeople who can make us laugh\, cry\, gasp or nod sagely\, to see our world anew and not feel so alone. \n\n\n\nWe need stories\, vignettes\, new windows to look out of\, and narrators to help those new visions make sense. \n\n\n\nIn short\, we need Scott Lavene. \n\n\n\nBorn and raised in Essex\, but a man of the world who has wandered far and wide\, Lavene’s a storyteller who can capture all the madness\, joy and frustration of life while singing about worms writhing in the ground. \n\n\n\nLavene’s been in bands since his teens\, but only really located the voice that makes his new album Milk City Sweethearts so remarkable – that combination of wry observation\, humble wisdom\, unguarded vulnerability and unpredictable humour – in a music workshop for alcoholics and addicts\, long after he’d bid farewell to childhood dreams of pop stardom\, and the ghosts and demons that accompany those dreams.

SUMMARY:The Cassandra Complex and Third House
DESCRIPTION:The Cassandra Complex will be at The Face Bar this November \n\n\n\nClub Velocity and New Mind presents The Cassandra Complex with Third House. \n\n\n\nBack in the mid-80s\, Irish musician Rodney Orpheus bumped into Paul Dillon in a Leeds nightclub while both were dancing to an early Die Krupps record. \n\n\n\nThey decided to form a band that night\, and did their first rehearsal the next day. \n\n\n\nJournalist Andy Booth came to interview them and ended up staying to play guitar. \n\n\n\nThey built a studio\, made a single called March\, and the career of The Cassandra Complex began. \n\n\n\nFrom the beginning the band were fascinated by drum machines\, synthesisers\, and computerised rhythms\, but unlike most other bands of the time\, they also wanted distorted guitars over the top. \n\n\n\nAnd so industrial rock music was born… \n\n\n\nWhen the band released their second single\, Moscow Idaho in 1985\, it quickly soared to the top of the indie charts all over the world\, got played to death on alternative radio stations\, and influenced an entire generation of bands to come. \n\n\n\nThey followed the success of Moscow Idaho with a trilogy of classic albums: Grenade\, Hello America\, and many fans’ all-time favourite\, Theomania. \n\n\n\nRodney later moved to Hamburg and the band’s lineup changed. \n\n\n\nIn came Juergen Jansen (later to join Project Pitchfork) who helped reinvent the band’s direction on the seminal concept album Cyberpunx; and Volker Zacharias\, whom Rodney had met while producing his band Girls Under Glass. \n\n\n\nVolker soon became a lynchpin of the band’s sound on the band’s most romantic album The War Against Sleep\, then the ultra-aggressive hard electro-rock that was Sex & Death\, released in 1993\, and the Wetware album\, released in 2000. \n\n\n\nA few years later Andy Booth rejoined and\, with the addition of Axel Ermes on keyboards\, the band started touring again\, playing at festivals and clubs across Europe. \n\n\n\nIn 2022\, they released their latest studio album The Plague\, which received rave reviews and reached #1 in the German Alternative Charts. \n\n\n\nThey are playing several shows throughout 2024\, including this visit to Reading. \n\n\n\nSupport comes from Third House\, promising post punk greatness featuring David Barbarossa from Adam and The Ants and Bow Wow Wow

SUMMARY:Balaam and the Angel
DESCRIPTION:Balaam and the Angels will be at The Face Bar in November\n\n\n\nBalaam and the Angel are a Scottish rock band founded by Mark\, James (Jim)\, and Desmond (Des) Morris in Cannock in 1984. \n\n\n\nAs children in Motherwell\, the Morris brothers worked in the entertainment industry as part of a cabaret act. \n\n\n\nThey moved south to Cannock\, Staffordshire\, where they formed Balaam and the Angel. \n\n\n\nInitially\, the band self-released a series of EPs and an album entitled Sun Family via their own Chapter 22 label and played some tour dates opening for The Cult. \n\n\n\nThis caught the attention of Virgin Records\, who signed them and released their debut album\, The Greatest Story Ever Told. \n\n\n\nIt peaked at No. 67 in the UK Albums Chart in August 1986. \n\n\n\nThey toured in the United States with The Mission\, Kiss and label mate Iggy Pop. \n\n\n\nA second guitarist and the first non-sibling\, Ian McKean of Twenty Flight Rockers\,was added to the band in 1988. \n\n\n\nThe band began to move away from gothic rock music styles into a sound that had more in common with hard rock. \n\n\n\nWith their new-found style\, they recorded the album Live Free or Die. \n\n\n\nThis was soon followed up in similar style when they recorded Days of Madness\, before leaving Virgin Records. \n\n\n\nTheir song I’ll Show You Something Special appeared on the soundtrack for the film\, Planes\, Trains and Automobiles. \n\n\n\nSupport: \n\n\n\n\nDesperate Measures\n\n\n\nFluoxetine\n\n\n\nThe Go Go Cult

SUMMARY:Los Fastidos
DESCRIPTION:Los Fastidios will be at The Face Bar on Tuesday\, November 5\n\n\n\nClub Velocity and New Mind presents Los Fastidos. \n\n\n\nThe Los Fastidios sound is a powerful melodic streetpunk which mixes classical 80’s British Punk-OI! sounds with a lot of skanking moments\, and more rock’n’roll and hardcore rhythms\, sung in Italian with some touches of English\, French\, Spanish and German. \n\n\n\nThe lyrics come from the most cheerful street situations to more serious and involved matters which deal with social problems\, such as battles against racism-fascism and any form of discrimination\, for the animal rights\, for freedom and against the capitalistic system.
