Ben Elton to returns to Reading with Authentic Stupidity show

King of alternative comedy is back on the road and coming to Reading

It’s been a while, but stand-up Ben Elton is back on the road and preparing for a visit to Reading.

The comic is bringing his latest show, Authentic Stupidity, to The Hexagon.

He was last touring five years ago, after a break of 15 years.

This new show looks at some of the foibles of modern life, and sees him give his views on them.

“Since my last live tour a whole new existential threat has emerged to threaten humanity,” he said.

“Apparently Artificial Intelligence is going to destroy us all.

“Well I reckon our real problem isn’t Artificial Intelligence it’s good old fashioned Authentic Stupidity.

“Forget AI … it’s AS we need to be worrying about.”

The comedian was one of the leading lights of the alternative comedy circuit in the 1980s, famous for his shiny blue jacket and sharp observations.

A bit of a motormouth, the taboo busting, tonsil rattling stand-up has been a firm favourite with audiences for years.

Away from comedy, he worked with Queen on the We Will Rock You musical, while he has written several books including the bestseller, Stark.

Currently touring the nation with Authentic Stupidity, many of the venues have sold out.

His Reading date is Sunday, November 17, and there are just a few tickets left before the event is declared fully booked.

The show starts at 7.30pm and is for ages 16 upwards.

Tickets cost £35 each.
