Something for everyone is promised at The Coconut Tree, as the Sri Lankan restaurant has launched a refreshed main menu and there are additional Vegan and Gluten-Free choices on offer.
And to mark Veganuary it is promising a special treat thanks its unique Roots menu with 21 vegan options, 18 of which are also gluten free.
They are available at The Coconut Tree’s Reading branch on Kings Road.
They include a Veganuary set meal for takeaway, either for collection or delivery through Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat. A Gluten Free set meal will also be available.
The new dishes on The Coconut Tree’s Roots menu include
- Hot battered Cauliflower – cauliflower marinated in garlic & chilli, battered in polenta and served with caramelised onions.
- Jackfruit Wings – Succulent jackfruit coated in breadcrumbs served with a tamarind sauce.
- Mango Curry – A Sri Lankan classic with a combination of sweet, savoury and tangy spices.
- Lady’s Fingers – A refreshing okra salad with tomato, onion, lime juice & crushed chillies
- Jackfruit Kotthu – A fine example of Sri Lankan street food served all over the county and made with chopped roti and veg.
- Jackfruit String Hopper Kotthu – A gluten free take on our popular traditional kotthu, made with rice flour noodles
- String Hoppers – Steamed handmade rice flour noodle nests naturally coloured with native flowers and perfect alongside curries and sambols. A great GF option.
And there are new additions to the main menu too
- Negombo Fish Curry – Beach inspired Sri Lankan curry packed with flavour. Succulent white fish fillet slow cooked in Negombo spices and coconut milk. Authentically served on a banana leaf.
- Devilled Prawns – Inspired by the team’s favourite street food from Colombo, this TCT’s take on sweet and spicy “stylee” sauce with fresh red onion and peppers with chillies.
- Mixed Seafood Kotthu – made with chopped roti and veg.
- String Hopper Kotthu – made with rice flour noodles and chopped veg and with vegetarian, roast chicken and mixed seafood options.
- String Hoppers – Steamed handmade rice flour noodle nests with coconut sambol.

Understandably, the team are pretty pleased with their start to 2025.

The Coconut Tree is inviting its customers to have a go at its Spin The Wheel promotion.
The aim is to let them discover something unexpected: a spontaneous, complimentary taster dish crafted to surprise and delight.

They say it’s the perfect way to explore new flavours, step outside the ordinary, and enjoy a little culinary adventure on them.
Where is The Coconut Tree and when is it open?
The Coconut Tree is on Kings Road in Reading, close to The Blade and almost opposite The White Building.
It is open seven days a week from noon, closing at 10pm every night apart from Fridays and Saturdays, when it stays open until midnight.
Food is served daily from opening.
Mondays to Thursdays, it is from noon to 3pm and then 5pm to 9pm.
Fridays and Saturdays, food is served from noon to 10pm
Sundays food is served noon to 9pm.
Its cocotails are available all day, and they say people should expect candles in half coconuts, and warm Sri Lankan hospitality.
