The Primitives are bringing their signature blend of 1960s girl-group sweetness and buzzsaw guitar jangle to Reading next week, sharing the stage with local heroes Blueboy for a massive night of indie pop history.
On Tuesday 24 February 2026, the Face Bar will play host to two of the most influential acts in the genre’s history, thanks to Future Transmissions.
The Primitives return to the stage
Formed in Coventry in 1985, The Primitives became a defining force in the British indie pop scene. They are best known for their 1988 international hit “Crash”, which reached the top five in the UK.
While the original line-up included vocalist Kieron McDermott, the band is most famously associated with the era fronted by Tracy Tracy.
Their sound, a blend of 1960s girl-group melodies and buzzsaw guitar jangle, continues to influence the alternative scene today.
Local legends Blueboy’s rare hometown appearance
Sharing the bill are Blueboy, an indie pop band formed in Reading in 1989. Despite their local roots, the band has not performed in the town for many years.
Blueboy achieved legendary status during the 1990s as part of the hugely influential Sarah Records label, earning high praise from tastemakers including John Peel, Janice Long, and Steve Lamacq.
Following a long hiatus, the band recently returned to the live circuit, making this upcoming Reading show a rare opportunity for local fans to see them on home turf.
