Norden Farm Centre for the Arts is set to host the award-winning play Monstering the Rocketman next month.

The production depicts an epic 1980s clash between Elton John and a tough British tabloid newspaper.

Based on the dramatic true story of Britian’s largest ever libel case, the play features Ferraris, punch-ups, gangsters, bugged phone calls, a £10 million divorce suit, Princess Diana, the Vice Squad and a pair of Devil dogs.

It follows the events after The Sun falsely accused Elton John of involvement with drugs and rent boys.

In response, the musician launched 17 lawsuits against the publication.

The story focuses on the unrepentant Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie, who insisted on ‘monstering’ the star into submission through a campaign of media harassment.

At the end will Elton still be standing? Or will The Sun go down on him?

The production won the Fringe First and the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Award in 2025, and is written and performed by Henry Naylor, a former comedian and writer for shows such as Smith and Jones and Lenny Henry.

Naylor has written nine plays and is a four-time Fringe First winner.

The show is directed by Darren Lee Cole, the artistic director of the Soho Playhouse in New York, whose previous producing credits include Fleabag and Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette.

When is Monstering the Rocketman coming to Norden Farm, and how can I get tickets?

Monstering the Rocketman will be performed at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Altwood Road, Maidenhead, SL6 4PF. The performance is scheduled for Thursday 12 March at 7.30pm.

The venue is located in Maidenhead, which is a short distance from Reading and can be reached easily via the Elizabeth Line or a short drive.

Tickets for the production are priced at £16.50. They are available to purchase from the Box Office by calling 01628 788997 or through the official Norden Farm website at www.nordenfarm.org.
