Reading’s newest bar, Flight Club, is celebrating summer with the launch of its new cocktail menu … and it’s also got a unique special for Reading Cocktail Week.
Based in Station Hill – the new street that runs from Friar Street to Reading Station, Flight Club fuses social darts with a fairground-themed bar.
And best of all, no one needs to be the next Luke Littler to enjoy the darts. Specially devised games ensure that novices have just as much chance of winning as those who learnt it all from watching reruns of Bullseye. They include a darts-themed version of Snakes and Ladders and a Donkey Derby.
With cameras on hand to record scores and capture winning moments, groups can concentrate on having fun and ordering cocktails.
What is the summer cocktail range at Flight Club?
Flight Club in Bloom is a limited-edition menu of five cocktails crafted to bring some sunshine, even if the weather turns. And they’re neat for drinking in its outdoor bar area at the front of the new venue. Perfect for watching the world go by and for catching up with friends.
The menu promises a range of drinks packed with premium spirits and bold fruit flavours. And you don’t need to book a darts oche to enjoy them: people can just turn up and enjoy a drink – and some food – from the bar.
This new Famous Five includes a mocktail, the Rhubarb Refresher (0% ABV). This is a mix of Seedlip Garden 108, lemon, grenadine and Franklin & Sons Rhubarb Lemonade, served with crushed ice in a tall glass; it looks good and tastes sublime.
The Main Parade is an impressive two-tone cocktail that uses Mermaid Zest and Stonewall Gin as the base, fused with lemon, vanilla, and a Crème de Mûre float – a rich, velvety French blackberry liqueur with a jam-like flavour that gives it its edge.
Served in a Collins glass, the Peach Perfect tastes of summer: Patrón Silver tequila from Mexico, peach, St-Germain, and Peach Red Bull are combined into a fresh drink that will slip down far too easily.
A wine glass is used for the Bourbon Spritz, a fusion of Maker’s Mark Bourbon and Aperol, with a hint of lemon, and some Prosecco to give it some fizz. Bright orange, it’s sunshine in a glass with some ice and a slice on the side.
The final entry in the summer menu is the Caramelita – a blend of Patrón Silver and Licor 43 from Spain, with lime, caramel, and a salt rim. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to drink salted caramel, this is your chance.
If none of that appeals, well, Flight Club has its full cocktail menu also available, plus a full range of draught beers and ciders, some interesting spirits and bottles and a host of soft drinks. Plus, plenty of darts.
The summer cocktail menu is available over the course of the summer – the clue is in the name, after all. But there is a very limited edition cocktail for Reading Cocktail Week.
Monkey Wants Apple fuses Monkey Shoulder Whisky, and Black Irish Whiskey Liqueur with Shanky’s Whip – a whiskey liqueur with real apple syrup and cloudy apple juice, with some fresh lemon, demerara syrup and a cider finish for a showstopper. A mocktail version is also available.
Reading Cocktail Week runs until Sunday, 12 July, at 24 venues across the town centre and includes Flight Club. Each venue has its own unique signature cocktail and mocktail, with prices starting at £5. Flight Club’s is £7, and there is a food deal: a cocktail and tacos for £17.
