Comedian Jimmy Carr – host of Amazon’s Last One Laughing show – is preparing to return to Reading’s Hexagon theatre for his latest show, Killing Jokes.
The award-winning comedian, writer, and television host needs little introduction.
He has been a regular face on British television for more than two decades, hosting 8 Out of 10 Cats and its Countdown variant, along with the Big Fat Quiz series. He has also appeared on shows such as Roast Battle UK and Your Face Or Mine.
Over the United States, he has appeared on US talk shows including Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and has guested on podcasts including The Joe Rogan Experience, Kill Tony and What Now? With Trevor Noah.
And if that wasn’t enough, he also signed a deal with Netflix so that four of his shows can be seen on the platform: Funny Business (2016), Best of Ultimate Gold Greatest Hits (2017)
and His Dark Material (2021) and Natural Born Killer (2024).
He is also busy on YouTube: with 2.16 million subscribers, he is the most-followed UK comedian. In recent years, Jimmy has been releasing content filmed at his live shows under the enormously successful ‘Heckle Amnesty’ strand on his YouTube channel.
In December last year, that included his 60-minute YouTube Original show – Jimmy Carr: Road Kill. This comprises his favourite heckle and crowd work interactions from his global
tour shows throughout the year.
And it is the tours where people can experience Jimmy Carr in full flow. He is in great demand across the globe. His Terribly Funny show sold more than 1.2 million tickets globally, including in the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, making it the biggest ever international stand-up comedy tour … until his next one.
His most recent tour, Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny surpassed that total and marked the first time this record-breaking comedian toured in arenas in the UK and Ireland.
Now he is planning a packed schedule for 2027, with his new show Killing Jokes.
He says that in comedy, ‘killing’ is a good thing. Everywhere else, it’s frowned upon. It is full of his dark humour that some people may find difficult, and the show is only for people aged 16 and older.
He promises a show packed with fast, dark one-liners about all kinds of terrible things. But, he says, they are just jokes.
They’re not the terrible things. Jokes are like magnets. They attract some people and repel others. You can joke about anything, but not with anyone.
Organisers say that if you’re attracted to Jimmy’s brand of comedy and think you can take the jokes, then by all means come out and play. On the other hand, they warn, those who think they would be offended should stay away.
They add that at this point, being offended at a Jimmy Carr show is like buying a ticket to a horror movie and complaining you got scared.
When is Jimmy Carr: Killing Jokes coming to Reading and how can I get tickets?
Jimmy Carr: Killing Jokes will be at The Hexagon on Saturday, 17 April 2027 from 7pm.
The show is suitable for mature audiences who aren’t easily offended, and the minimum entry age is 16.
Tickets go on sale from Friday, 23 October, and cost £38.50, £46, £58.50, or £68.50. A maximum of six can be booked online at any one time; for larger groups, or wheelchair and access seating, call the box office on 0118 960 6060. These tickets cannot be resold, and they are only available via the Reading Arts box office, the WhatsOnReading website or Ticketmaster. Early booking is advised as his sets normally sell out.
The show will also be at Guildford’s G Live on Friday, 4 June, and the Wycombe Swan on Wednesday, 25 August. For those who plan ahead, the show comes to The Anvil in Basingstoke on Wednesday, 8 March, 2028.
