Corrie fans with long memories will recall Curly Watts: for more than 20 years he played the unlucky in love dreamer with a knowledge of the stars. Now, the actor behind the role is showcasing a love of punk.

Kevin Kennedy is the narrator for Punk Off, a show that brings to life some of the biggest songs from the biggest names of the era.

Organisers say it will be a nostalgic journey, taking audiences on a tour through the early days of punk through to its revivals in the 1980s and 1990s.

It aims to be a high energy rock show that, for the first time ever, tells the story of a music genre that changed the world.

What does Kevin Kennedy know about music?

Quite a lot actually.

Kevin Kennedy was in the band Paris Valentinos with Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke.

They later formed The Smiths.

This means that he is bringing his real-world band experience to this epic show.

Away from the cobbles of Weatherfield, Kevin Kennedy has appeared in West End productions of the musicals We Will Rock You and Rock of Ages.

He says he can’t wait for Reading audiences to see the show when it comes to The Hexagon this spring.

“I’m so excited to be joining the cast of Punk Off,” he says.

“When punk exploded on the scene in 1977, it truly was a revolution it changed our music, our fashion and every aspect of the arts.

“I witnessed it all… Let’s do it again… together.”

What can audiences expect from Punk Off?

The show will see Punk and New Wave hits, attitude and fashion brought to the stage by a talented cast of musicians, singers and dancers on a punk journey that organisers say will thrill audiences, from original fans to audiences new to the genre.

It will feature hits originally performed by:

  • The Sex Pistols
  • The Clash
  • Blondie
  • The Damned
  • Ramones
  • Buzzcocks
  • The Undertones
  • The Police
  • The Jame
  • Siouxsie and The Banshees
  • The Pretenders
  • Joy Division
  • The Stranglers
