Celebrating Monty Python’s Terry Jones: Michael Palin and coming to The Hexagon for a truly memorable evening

Reading audiences are invited to a very special evening celebrating the extraordinary life and work of Monty Python legend Terry Jones … and it will be given by one of the people who knew him best: a fellow Python.

Known for his boundless imagination, wit and irreverence, Jones helped reshape comedy and inspired generations across the globe with his unique vision.

From Monty Python classics to bold film projects, Terry Jones left an indelible mark on comedy and cinema.

He gifted audiences with unforgettable characters and lines, from “He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy” to Mr Creosote’s explosive finale in The Meaning of Life.

Beyond Python, he worked with Julie Walters in Personal Services and contributed to the screenplay of the cult classic film Labyrinth, which starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.

For this one-off tribute, Sir Michael Palin, long-time collaborator and close friend of Terry, will share personal memories and insights when the pair come to Reading’s Hexagon Theatre.

The event will be held in November and will be a unique opportunity to discover more about Terry Jones’s life and career. It will touch on the creative partnership he had with Michael Palin, and behind-the-scenes moments from their legendary projects.

The evening will feature clips from Terry’s career, including Ripping Yarns, Erik the Viking, and Python masterpieces Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life.

This is a unique opportunity to celebrate the imagination, humour and legacy of one of comedy’s most influential figures.

Half-time refreshments? Spam. Probably.

The event is being presented by Slapstick Festival, the UK’s leading celebration of classic and silent screen comedy.

The festival aims to ensure the artistry of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy and their contemporaries continues to be celebrated and enjoyed by new generations.

A fundraising event will be held at The Hexagon on Monday, October 6 from 7.30pm.

The line-up includes Alexei Sayle, Arthur Smith, Shazia Mirza, Alasdair Beckett-King and Stewart Lee. Tickets for this are already on sale.
