Fancy a stroll around Reading with a difference?

A one-hour guided walk is set to take people on a journey through the town’s historic waterways.

Reading expert Terry Dixon will lead the guided walk around the Kennet and Avon Canal, the bridges that go over them and the towpaths that once took biscuits, beer and bulbs around the country.

The event, called Wonders of the Reading’s Kennet Waterways is a short, flat walk – although some stretches may not be wheelchair-friendly.

It is a perfect way to get outside and discover the local history of the river, wharfs, and bridges the town takes for granted.

Raising money for two Local Charities

As with all of Terry’s walks, participants are invited to make a donation or £5 or £10, which will go to his charities of the year:

The first charity is The Ways & Means Trust, which helps adults with learning or physical disabilities, or mental health challenges.

They provide a safe and friendly environment for people to gain practical skills for independent living and work experience. Their objective is to help people build confidence, realise their potential, and lead rewarding lives.

The second charity is Camp Mohawk, a day centre located in woodland near Wargrave.

It provides essential support for families who have a child with special needs by offering a safe, stimulating, and fun environment for children and young people to experience activities they often cannot access in mainstream facilities.

Its team provides support to families during their visits.

When is Wonders of the Reading’s Kennet Waterways coming to Reading, and how can I get tickets?

Wonders of the Reading’s Kennet Waterways is a one-hour guided walk on Friday, 5th September at 2pm. The walk will be held along the River Kennet in Reading and the exact location of the start point will be given on booking.

Places are limited, and Terry welcomes donations of £5-£10 per adult and £1 per child over five.
