The “raw electricity” of the celebrated stage production starring Frances Barber is set for a special nationwide cinema release this spring.
One of the most talked-about theatre events of recent years, MUSIK, will arrive in cinemas across the UK for two exclusive dates on April 9 and 12. This special release offers fans a rare opportunity to experience the live solo performance—originally filmed during its 2025 run at London’s historic Wilton’s Music Hall—with immersive sound and striking cinematic close-ups.
At the centre of the production is a towering performance by Frances Barber, who reprises her role as the iconic, “preposterous” icon Billie Trix. The character was first introduced in the 2001 Pet Shop Boys West End musical Closer to Heaven.
Written by the multi-award-winning playwright Jonathan Harvey and featuring original music by pop legends Pet Shop Boys, the show is a savage, surreal odyssey through fame, failure, and sequins.
“Ich bin Musik”
The film blends the live stage recording with additional scenes filmed specifically for a cinema audience. Billie Trix takes the viewer on a journey from post-war Berlin to the New York art scene, delivering a monologue that collision memoirs, stand-up, and cabaret.
Reflecting on the big-screen transition, Frances Barber said:
“Performing as Billie Trix has always been a live, dangerous exchange, and the big screen brings audiences closer than ever to that relationship. Sharing Billie with cinema audiences across the UK feels like giving the show a bold new lease of life!”
When is MUSIK coming to Reading, and how can I get tickets?
The filmed event will be screened at major cinemas on Thursday, 9 April and Sunday, 12 April 2026.
Tickets are on sale now via the official website at musikincinemas.com or directly through local box offices.
