There are few things more enjoyable thab a pint in a beer garden at the height of summer. And Fuller’s is planning to make it even better thanks to three special events coming to its pubs in Sonning and Eversley Cross.

The Bull and The Frog and Wicket will be the venues for an evening of Shakespeare, an evening of opera, and an evening in the company of Sherlock Holmes, all in the great outdoors. Let’s hope it’s not a washout.

Shakespeare in the Garden: Romeo and Juliet

The Open Bar Theatre company are marking 10 years of open-air theatre with its new production of Shakespeare’s famous love story Romeo and Juliet.

The tale of two teenagers who fall head over heels with each other, the youngsters have to navigate the cultural divide between their warring families. Unfortunately, this path of true love does not run smoothly, but the Bard’s inventive writing makes this an ever-popular show.

Whether you’re a Shakespeare lover or simply looking for a unique night out, this is outdoor theatre at its most charming.

The play will be at The Frog and Wicket on August 21.

Opera in the Garden – An Evening of Opera’s Greatest Hits

Rogue Opera is bringing a showcase of opera’s most loved music to the beer gardens this summer.

The show will feature some of the most famous moments and characters from operas so famous that most will have heard of them. They include excerpts from La Traviata, La Bohème, Carmen, The Barber of Seville, Tosca and Don Giovanni; this aims to be a vibrant and accessible celebration of the very best of opera.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or completely new to the genre, the Rogue Opera performance promises something for everyone.

Organisers say that much will be familiar, as the powerful and emotive pieces have been found in films such The Shawshank Redemption, Pretty Woman, Mission: Impossible and True Romance, as well as across sport and advertising.

At the Bull at Sonning on July 1, and August 21 at The Frog and Wicket, both starting at 7pm.

Sherlock Holmes – Live in the Garden

Forget having to visit 221B Baker Street to see if the world’s most famous detective is in: the supersleuth is heading to Eversley Cross and Sonning this summer.

The Old Joint Stock theatre company is bringing the legendary detective to life as he unravels a thrilling case filled with twists, turns, and clever deductions, all set against the charming backdrop of an open-air stage.

Fuller’s says it will be the perfect blend of suspense and summer-evening escapism, performed by a company renowned for its bold and engaging productions.

This is a chance to gather your fellow sleuths, settle in with a drink in hand, and prepare for a night of outdoor theatre that will keep you guessing until the very end.

The show will be performed at The Frog and Wicket on 10 August, and at The Bull at Sonning on 17 August.

How can I get to see these open-air productions and how much are tickets?

Tickets for each of the shows cost £20 and £10 for children, and the pub menus are always available, meaning you can gobble some fish n chips or enjoy a sharing board while soaking up the live performances.

Fuller’s says places are limited and best reserved in advance.

If the weather is looking a little unkind, the shows will still go ahead, and people are encouraged to dress appropriately. Being an outdoor performance, as the sun goes down the temperatures will drop too.
