For years, pupils everywhere would tune in to the CBBC show Grange Hill. For some, it might have seemed like homework but for others it was a chance to watch teenagers navigate the highs and lows of secondary school.
The cast became famous, even heading to the White House when their anti-drugs song Just Say No swept the chart. They met Nancy Regan and also made an appearance on Top of the Pops.
The song was a spin-off from a storyline in which one of the most popular pupils, Zammo, ended up dead from a drug overdose. It was a shocking storyline that made headlines the world over.
Zammo was played by Lee MacDonald, and he is heading to the Reading’s Purple Turtle this May for the ultimate school disco.
The Gun Street venue is holding it during the day: running from 2pm to 8pm on Saturday, 16 May.
Lee will be behind the decks playing a selection of 80s and 90s floor fillers: truly the golden age of discos.
The Purple Turtle team says: “Dust off your blazers and tighten those ties. We’re heading back to the playground for the ultimate 80s and 90s throwback.
“Whether you were a high-flyer or a regular in detention, this is the reunion you actually want to attend.”
Entry costs £8.95 plus a booking fee, but includes a free drink.
