Reading Rep presents The Last Five Years
Friday, September 19 at 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM
Reading Rep Theatre is staging its first-ever musical with this production of Jason Robert Brown’s acclaimed show, The Last Five Years.
The musical explores the five-year relationship between two New Yorkers, Jamie and Cathy, with a unique storytelling structure. Jamie’s side of the story is told chronologically from the beginning, while Cathy’s version starts at the end and moves backwards in time.
The two timelines meet only once, on their wedding day.
The production is a co-production with The Barn Theatre and Theatre Royal Bath.
It is directed by Hal Chambers, who said he has wanted to direct the show for over 20 years, praising its emotional depth and storytelling.
The creative team will lean into “bold imagery and movement” to explore the relationship’s “ghosts” and the “raw beauty of love and heartbreak”.
Starring Martha Kirby as Cathy and Guy Woolf as Jamie, the musical has a Tony Award-winning score. This revival has been described as a “masterpiece” and “one of the most powerful musicals of the 21st century”.
