A former lawyer is gearing up to party as he celebrates the release of his new EP.

Kwame Ultimate is a Reading-based Jamaican, and independent Reggae Dancehall artiste.

The self-styled “da Alkebulan poet” likens himself to the ancient Alkebulan griots, was given the name Kwame on his first visit to Ghana.

A voracious reader from an early age, Kwame says he is enthralled by language and has been writing ever since, while also taking in the Complete Works of Shakespeare’ and Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart by the time he was 11.

He also composed poems and love songs to impress girls in primary school.

After education, his goal was initially journalism before making a switch to the bench, and then to music.

His date at South Street will be a launch and listening party for his EP I am Reggae Dancehall.

Kwame will perform tracks including the hit song, I am Reggae Muzik.

There will also be a Q and A session in addition to surprise guest appearances.

The artiste says he hopes to enhance the reggae revival being pushed by the likes of Damian Marley, Chronixx and Grammys winner Kabaka Pyramid.

The show is at South Street Arts Centre on Saturday, November 9, starting at 7pm.

Tickets cost £7, and the show is suitable for ages 10 upwards; under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.
