Comedian, author and satirical songwriter Mitch Benn is preparing to get to The Point when he returns to Reading this Saturday, January 18.

A regular visitor to South Street Arts Centre, his new song aims to explore what the point might be, how we can miss it, and how we can find it again.

The comic says he has been wondering if he’s really making a difference, and if there is – a POINT to what he,  or anybody  else, is doing.

He adds that the good news is he’s had a long hard think about it and he’s figured it out, and he’s coming back to tell us all what the POINT of comedy – and much else besides –might be…

Who is Mitch Benn?

Probably best known as the resident songwriter on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show between 1999 and 2016, Mitch is a talented musician and actor who likes being funny.

He has amassed a large online following where he shares some of his latest songs and jokes, running a Patreon page where people can support his work – http://patreon.com/mitchbenn

This includes some exclusive songs and events such as a listening party and livestreams.

In addition to his radio work, he has appeared on telly on shows such as Live At Jongleurs (ITV), Watchdog (BBC) and The Comedy Store (5).

Mitch’s acting credits include Merlin (BBC1) and in 2013 he took over the role of Zaphod Beeblebrox for the live stage show tour of The Hitchhikers’ Guide To The Galaxy.

He even won Celebrity Mastermind in 2016.

The New European newspaper features his columns and he has penned three sci-fi novels, Terra, Terra’s World and Terra’s War.

What are Mitch Benn’s Terra books about?

When a kindly but bumbling extra-terrestrial finds what he believes to be an abandoned human baby girl during a visit to Earth, he decides to take her back to his homeworld and raise her as his own child.

Little does he realise that this simple act of kindness will alter the course of history on both their planets and eventually determine the fate of the whole universe …

The books are a trilogy that he says is a love letter to science fiction and a perfect introduction to the genre for younger readers.
