Mark T and Iqbal Pathan are to perform an evening of Greek Rembetika, Reggae, English and African folk music, Bhangra and American Delta Blues in Maidenhead this summer.

The duo will bring a unique collection of sounds which celebrates blues as a worldwide phenomenon.

Who are Mark T and Iqbal Pathan?

Iqbal was born in Uganda but moved to England at the time of Idi Amin’s expulsion of Asian immigrants in the 1970s.

He performs on tabla (a pair of hand drums) and darabuka (a drum shaped like a goblet) and has played with a wide range of artists.

With the group Milan, he travelled for three weeks in Norway, performing concerts across our European neighbour.

He has been to France with Roots Progress, conducted by Roger Watson. This offered traditional tunes in improvisation workshops to musicians with other stylistic backgrounds. Ensembles from this scheme played many community events.

Additionally, he toured in Switzerland with Indian group Ghazal, playing Indian classical music.

Iqbal is also a regular session musician and has performed on recordings with a large number of artists.

He plays bouzouki, harmonica and national steel guitar. Mark has toured Brittany twice, plays regularly in Denmark and occasionally in Italy.

Highlights of his career include performing live on BBC Radio 2, live appearances at BBC Pebble Mill and Saturday night main stage appearances at the Pontardawe and Bracknell festivals.

Mark T and Iqbal Pathan are lifetime practitioners of their music and performing together they will bring Norden Farm audiences a collection of unique sounds and rhythms yet to be discovered.
