The world will be at hand when the town centre gets taken over once again by the Reading Food Festival.
The two-day event will see street traders line Broad Street to celebrate global cuisine. Visitors can browse a wide selection of food, including curries, wraps, burgers, and desserts.
When they’ve finally chosen, they will be able to sit and enjoy some music courtesy of Reading-based bands and performers.
All that’s needed is the weather.
Among the countries represented are Mexico, Korea, Peru, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Greece, Thailand, Turkey, and Spain. Organisers say the standout offerings include bold street tacos, Korean chicken skewers, and traditional paella cooked fresh on-site.
Blue Collar fans will recognise some of the award-winning and cult-favourite vendors such as The Burger Society, recognised for its British Street Food Award-winning burgers, and local favourites from Reading’s own independent food scene, bringing a distinctly local voice to a globally inspired line-up.
The event is organised REDA (Reading’s Economy and Destination Agency) and Blue Collar, and runs from 11am to 6pm on Saturday, 9 May, and Sunday, 10 May. Entry is free.
Nigel Horton-Baker, Chief Executive of REDA, is looking forward to the global nosh.
“Reading Food Festival remains a highlight of the town’s annual calendar, bringing together families, students, residents, visitors and independent businesses to celebrate international culture and food. Come and enjoy our lively town centre in full swing,” he said.
