It’s said to be the most faithful adaptation of Charles Dickens’ festive tale, and it has become a seasonal staple. Now, The Muppet Christmas Carol is to be subject to a special screening tour this December.

Tickets have already gone on sale for the 15-date event, which sees an orchestra perform the music while the film plays on a big screen.

A Christmas Carol is probably Dickens’ most famous work: when the grumpy Scrooge receives Christmas Eve visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, they show him the error of his self-serving ways.

Though the miserable old man seems beyond any hope of redemption and happiness, the kind and humble Bob Cratchit, his family, and the Spirits open Scrooge’s eyes – and his heart – to the true meaning of Christmas.

The Muppets teamed up with Michael Caine for this fresh take on Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Caine).

Gonzo, as Dickens, narrates the story with the help of Rizzo the Rat. The film also features Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit, Fozzie Bear as Fozziwig, and Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim, and many other Muppets have cameos.

The original score was composed by Miles Goodman (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Little Shop of Horrors) with songs by Oscar, Emmy and GRAMMY-winning songwriter Paul Williams (Rainbow Connection, Evergreen).

How do I get tickets to The Muppet Christmas Carol?

While none of the 15 dates on the tour is in Reading, the first date is the London Eventim Apollo, which is close to Hammersmith Underground station.

This gig takes place at 2pm on Saturday, 28 November. Tickets cost from £42.75.
