A Christmas concert in Caversham will be poignant because it will act as a memorial.

Timothy Watts was one of the founders of Concerts in Caversham, and the festive performance will feature many of his favourite pieces of music.

He was an oboist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in addition to helping get the popular concert series off the ground.

The Concerts In Caversham Chamber Orchestra will be presenting the music, which will include some audience carols, and performed in candlelight.

There will be extracts from Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Bach’s second Brandenburg Concerto, Gabriel’s Oboe, and Handel’s The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.

The orchestra comprises some of the top musicians in the country, with experiences including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Royal College of Music and the Royal Opera House orchestra.

For this concert, they will be joined by soloists Johnny Roberts (oboe), Patrick Flanaghan (oboe/cor anglaise), Emer McDonough (flute), Suannah Fairbarin (soprano), and Sam Pantcheff (bass).

It takes place at St Andrew’s Church in Albert Road, Caversham, from 7.30pm on Saturday, December 7.

Tickets cost £26, £24 for over 60s, £18 for ages 16 to 24, and free for under 16s.
