A Gospel-flavoured carol concert will help raise funds for a Reading-based charity, just days before Christmas.

The Reading Community Gospel Choir will perform favourite festive songs, with audiences able to join in.

They will be joined by a three-piece band.

The choir won the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year contest in 2019. Judges included Rick Astley and Brenda Edwards.

A firm favourite, this is the sixth year they have been able to perform at the event, which will be held at Reading Minster Church in St Mary’s Butts.

Proceeds will go to the work of Refugee Support Group

The charity has been operating since 1994 and aims to offer people seeking asylum help and support including advice, awareness and facilitating integration within the communities they are moving in to.

They also aim to reduce poverty, suffering and social isolation to those who may have faced persecution and hardship.

The event takes place from 6.30pm on Friday, December 20.

Refreshments are served ahead of the concert, which runs for 90 minutes. There will then be more refreshments after the show.

Tickets cost £12, or £7.50 for concessions.

Full details are available on the charity’s website, https://refugeesupportgroup.org.uk/christmas-carol-concert-2024/
