Stars of Whose Line Is It Anyway? coming to Reading town hall

We can’t tell you what they’ll be doing as they’ll be making it up as they go along

Much-missed Channel 4 show Whose Line Is It Anyway? is bring laughter to Reading next year, and tickets have gone on sale.

And it is really hard to preview the show as each night it is improvised by a team of talented comedians who are constantly kept on their toes.

In case you haven’t see the show, originally hosted by Clive Anderson, or its US version, the format is simple.

Four comedians are tasked to improvise skits, with the set-up based on suggestions from the audience: the place, the parts they play, and the scenario they act out.

It means the comics are constantly thinking about the jokes they need to tell, and how they will fit into the narrative. Which is usually rapidly descending into chaos.

The show will feature a cast from the resident Impro troupe from The Comedy Store Players, the most famous comedy club in the world.

The core cast includes Josie Lawrence, Neil Mullarkey, Richard Vranch, Lee Simpson and Ruth Bratt. They have regularly been joined by special guests including Stephen Frost, Mike McShane, Marcus Brigstocke, Suki Webster, Greg Proops, Monica Gaga, Lauren Shearing, Rachel Parris, Steve Steen, Ian Coppinger, Pippa Evans, Niall Ashdown, Phelim McDermott, Cariad Lloyd, Dave Johns, Phill Jupitus, David Reed, Eddie Izzard.

The Guinness Book of Records has given them an award for being the world’s longest running comedy show with the same cast, as they have been delighting audiences for more than 30 years, but rarely travel beyond the confines of their central London base.

This is a rare opportunity to see the original stars of ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’ strutting their stuff on tour.

Expect lightning-quick reactions and world-class silliness.

The show is part of a celebration of The Comedy Store Players’ 40th anniversary, and Reading will be the first stop.

The line-up of comics has yet to be confirmed, but tickets for the show, on Saturday, March 1, have gone on sale via whatsonreading.com or by calling the Reading Arts box office on 0118 960 6060.

They cost £26, and the show is suitable for ages 14 upwards. It takes place at Reading Town Hall.
