An opportunity to hear the music of The Kinks played by members of The Kinks is coming to Newbury this December thanks to Kast Off Kinks, who will be bringing their show to the Arlington Arts Centre on Saturday, December 14.
Founding member of the band and its original drummer, Mick Avory, will be joined by Mark Haley, a keyboardist and singer who performed with the band between 1989 and 1993, and Mike Steed who plays bass/vocals, and has previously performed with bands such as Love Affair, Chip Hawkes, Marmalade, The Rubettes, and Mike Pender.
They are fronted by the equally talented and charismatic Dave Clarke on guitar and main vocals.
He made three albums with the Noel Redding band, two solo albums as Dave Carlsen and the Dream Machine, one with Jimmy McCulloch, and several others including Mick Avory, Dave Rowberry, Tim Rose and Keith Moon.
Dave has been a member of the Kast Off Kinks since it was formed almost 30 years ago.
Audiences can expect all the hits, including You Really Got Me, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Sunny Afternoon, Lola, Days, Waterloo Sunset, Come Dancing, for a great night out.
Who were The Kinks?
The Kinks formed in 1963, and were part of the British Invasion of the United States.
Their third single, You Really Got Me, was an international hit, and was just one of a number of records that have stood the test of time.
They went on to record a number of albums including The Village Green Preservation Society, Arthur, Lola Versus Powerman, and Muswell Hillbillies.
They continued to produce music right up until 1997, and enjoyed something of a revival in the late 1970s to the mid-80s.
As part of this, they produced one of their most successful hits on the other side of the pond, Come Dancing.
Four of their albums were gold, and they have sold more than 50 million records worldwide.
In 1990, the original four members of the Kinks were inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame: Ray and Dave Davies, Mick Avory and Pete Quaife.
The band enjoyed another boost as part of the Britpop boom in the mid 1990s, with many bands citing The Kinks as an influence on their songs.
However, they called it a day in 1996, leading to the brothers releasing their own albums.
This led to the formation of the Kast Off Kinks, with the original line-up features John Gosling, John Dalton and Mick Avory from The Kinks along with Dave Clarke.
Their music has stood the test of time, and is still regularly heard on the airwaves, in films and on adverts.
The Kast Off Kinks is the next best thing to seeing The Kinks live.
