A touch of Americana is coming to Reading direct from Oxfordshire, thanks to Dreaming Spires.
Led by brothers Robin and Joe Bennett, the band represents a cornerstone of the British Americana scene, blending decades of touring experience with Saint Etienne and Goldrush into a sound defined by soaring harmonies.
Future Tranmissions is bringing Dreaming Spires to The Face Bar on Wednesday, 8 April.
For the gig, they will be joined on the night by support act Jess Tuthill.
Searching for the supertruth
The Dreaming Spires released their debut single, Everything All The Time, in 2012.
This was followed by the 2013 album Brothers in Brooklyn on Clubhouse Records. The debut was compared to Big Star, Gram Parsons, and Teenage Fanclub by The Independent.
The songs detailed experiences on the road in the United States, focusing on the relationships built during long tours.
This April marks 11 years since the release of their second album, Searching for the Supertruth.
Released in 2015, the record led to nominations for Album and Artist of the Year at the inaugural UK Americana Awards.
The album featured contributions from Tony Poole of Starry Eyed & Laughing and Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne.
Writer Graham Bollands recently included the record in his top 10 British Americana albums of the 21st century, noting the band’s use of harmonies in the tradition of The Byrds and The Everly Brothers.
The band previously travelled to Nashville for Americanafest in 2016, where they recorded material at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis. These sessions resulted in the Paisley Overground EP.
After a break to focus on other projects, the band is returning to the stage to prepare for the release of new material. Their upcoming album, Normal Town, is scheduled for release on 24 October on Clubhouse Records.
Who are Dreaming Spires?
From Goldrush to the world stage
Robin and Joe formed the Oxfordshire indie band Goldrush in the early 2000s, signing to Virgin Records.
Over the last decade, they have toured the world as part of the live band for Saint Etienne and the award-winning Bennett Wilson Poole.
Jamie Dawson is a sought-after drummer for US touring artists including Annie Keating and Carter Sampson, while Tom Collison plays keyboards for Danny and the Champions of the World.
Nick Fowler joined Goldrush for their third and final album before the group split in 2008 and has since performed with Gaz Coombes and Peter Buck.
Who is Jess Tuthill?
Jess Tuthill is a singer-songwriter from Reading who has been writing music for over 20 years.
Taking inspiration from her surroundings, including television and computer games, her instrument of choice for more than a decade has been the ukulele.
While her music is often delicate and melancholy, her sets are noted for their warmth and humour.
Jess has previously shared the stage at London’s Union Chapel with the likes of Kathryn Williams and Michele Stodart of The Magic Numbers.
Her debut album, A Beautiful Disaster, was recorded and produced by Ed Harcourt at the Wolf Cabin and mastered at Abbey Road Studios.
When is Dreaming Spires coming to Reading, and how can I get tickets?
Dreaming Spires and Jess Tuthill will perform at Face Bar on Wednesday 8 April, 2026. Doors open at 8pm with the show starting at 8.30pm.
The venue is located at Ambrose Place, Reading, RG1 7JL.
This performance is open to those aged 14 and over, though anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets are priced at £12.00 plus a £1.20 booking fee, totalling £13.20.
