The Sensational 60s Experience plans an afternoon of fun in 2025

The Sensational 60s Experience is preparing to bring the sound of the sixties back to Reading next year … and it won’t be a late night.

The touring show features bands from the 1960s, meaning this is a rare chance to hear the originals live on stage.

Usually, the show takes place in the evening but for this performance it is for one afternoon only … the bands will be performing at The Hexagon in a matinee show.

The 2025 line-up comprises Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich, The Trems (featuring Jeff Brown, former member of The Tremeloes), The Fortunes, Steve Ellis (original voice of Love Affair) and Vanity Fare.

The set list includes a whole host of classics such as The Legend Of Xanadu, Silence Is Golden, Everlasting Love, Storm In A Teacup, Hitchin A Ride.

Organisers say this will be an opportunity to step back in time to when pop music was at its very best.

A spokesperson said it will be a festival of nostalgia: “The show with the definite feelgood factor will transport you back to that magical decade that was the 1960s.

“Whether you come to relive your childhood memories or you just simply want to see what your parents have been raving about for all these years this is the show to see.

“These legends of the 60s will deliver to you a night never to be forgotten.”

Originally headed up by Dave Dee, the band formed in 1964, and were known for their zany stage act and lurid dress sense.

Their first number one was The Legend of Xanadu, and they had international success as well.

While some of the founding members have since passed away, the line-up varies, but they are headed up by the original Beaky.

The band play the sound of the Tremeloes, from some of the former band members including Jeff Brown.

Originally formed in 1958 the Tremeloes were signed by Decca records on the same day Decca turned down The Beatles. Among their first hits was Twist and Shout. Other songs included Do You Love Me, and Candy Man.

They contributed their incredible vocal harmonies to some of the most melodic and enduring pop songs of the 60s and early 70s.

During which they showcased the talents of song writing team Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway with such hits as You’ve Got Your Troubles, Here It Comes Again, Freedom Come Freedom Go and Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again.

He joined a band called Soul Survivors gaining experience in the London Northern Soul Circuit. Following a band name change to Love Affair, Steve and the lads cut their first record She Smiled Sweetly, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, for Decca records.

The rest is rock n roll history.

Who can remember doing the Hitch hiking thumbs up move on the dance floor whenever their song Hitchin a Ride came over the speakers at the local dance?

Their other hits Early in the Morning and that beautiful ballad Better by Far and their close harmonies and musician ship make Vanity Fare a much loved band.
