The acts

MICHAEL AKADIRI

Michael is a comedian and a junior doctor, so he knows the best prescription for a good night out: laughter is, after all, the best medicine.

He’s the inaugural winner of the Komedia New Comedy Award and starred in the London finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2021 (BBC Three).

Currently on a sabbatical from his surgical training, Michael’s medical background means he’s also in demand as a health commentator, appearing on TV and radio.

Michael’s 2022 Edinburgh Fringe debut was success, with his show ‘No Scrubs’ selling out the run and culminated in a nomination for NextUp’s Biggest Award in Comedy. The subsequent UK tour in early 2023 was a hit and the critically acclaimed show is now available to view as a special on Michael’s YouTube channel.

CLAIRE RAMMELKAMP

Claire studied English at Oxford University and then became part of the first all-female cohort of the National Youth Theatre, where she formed her feminist theatre company, Wonderbox, associate company at both The Space Theatre and Greenwich Theatre.

She was a member of the 2019 BBC Comedy Writersroom and has written for Newsjack and BBC Wales’ The Leak. Claire is currently developing “Immaculate” with Anna Maxwell Martin and Popcorn Group. Her writing explores the themes of queerness, taboo, female experience, and filth.

She has also been seen in Amazon Prime’s dark 9/11 drama, The Looming Tower, and Burn The Curtain’s site specific adaptation of Angela Carter’s The Company of Wolves in collaboration with the National Forestry Commission.

YURIKO KOTANI

Yuriko Kotani is a UK-based Japanese comedian.

She was named as ‘one to watch’ by Time Out and won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2015.

She appeared on Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central, Pointless Celebrities (BBC One), Mandy (BBC2), Pls Like (BBC3), Paul Hollywood Eats Japan (C4), Sorry, I Didn’t Know (ITV) and Comedy Central Live.

ISZI LAWRENCE

Iszi Lawrence is a writer, comedian, podcaster and History presenter.

She has performed bespoke History shows at events for The British Science Festival, Dulwich Picture Gallery, The British Museum, Royal Society, Ashmolean Museum etc. He has spoken at numerous events and has hosted the Conway Hall Ethical Gala and The Museum and Heritage Awards 2022 and 2023.

She was part of the Perrier Award Winning Best Newcomer show in 2004 and regularly performs stand-up comedy around Europe on the comedy circuit.

She has written for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Xtra, BBC Radio 1 and Resonance FM. She has also written for the Guardian.

Iszi is an author of historical fiction for children. Her latest novel for nine–12-year-olds The Cursed Tomb is an Ancient Egyptian tomb raiding adventure set in 1249 BCE and will be released on Jan 30th 2025.
