The Drowns: 1st time in Reading for awesome blue collar punk rock n rollers

The Drowns are preparing to fly over from Seattle to make their Reading debut this autumn, and they will be hoping we will give them a warm welcome. 

Club Velocity is organising their gig at The Face Bar in Chatham Street, where they will perform some blue collar punk rock ‘n’ roll from their recent release Blacked Out. 

The studio album is a collaboration with their longtime producer Ted Hutt (Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem), and is a collection of songs that fuse their varied influences from the boogie-woogie shuffle roots of original 50s rock ’n roll, to the strutting swagger of 70s glam and “bovver rock,” to the gritty rabble-rousing of ’77 style anthemic street punk – into a laser-tight, cohesive sound that is unmistakably theirs.

The Drowns say that the imagery and storytelling in their songwriting is stronger than ever on Blacked Out, with standout tracks such as 1979 Trans Am and The Way She Goes.

It also features a cover of Mud’s 1973 hit Dynamite, in The Drowns’ unique style. 

They promise bucketloads of other bangers, providing proof of life for rock ’n roll itself. 

Amid all the bluster, a humanitarian concern for the struggles and stories of working-class people remains at the centre of the conversation, lyrically, making this album a rallying call to punks, rock ’n rollers, and good-hearted misfits of all stripes.

The Drowns hope that Blacked Out will be a game changer and the next stage of evolution for a band that has built a rabid worldwide fanbase the old-fashioned way: with killer records and relentless touring. 

With a band whose “onwards and upwards” trajectory has never wavered, this album is the next big step, aimed at launching them into the hearts of even more adoring fans, onto even bigger stages, and into even more corners of the world. 

Most recently, the band – whose pedigree already included former members of noted acts such as Time Again and Success – recently added guitarist Christian Martucci to the lineup, whose CV includes stretches with Corey Taylor‘s CMFT, Stone Sour and punk rock legend Dee Dee Ramone‘s band (just to name a few), adding another layer to The Drowns‘ guitar heroics. 

They say that if you haven’t joined The Drowns’ party yet, now is the time … Everybody’s invited. 

When they come to The Face Bar this September, support will come from Reading punk and roll band DxSxA, and OTUK – the Green Man, who Club Velocity say are a must-see band. 

When are The Drowns performing in Reading and how can I get tickets? 

The gig, on Monday, September 22, takes place at The Face Bar in Chatham Street. 

Doors open at 8pm, and support cames from DxSxA and OTUK – the Green Man. 

Tickets cost £16.50 including a booking fee, and those aged 14-16 can attend if accompanied by an adult.
