Readifolk: Maggie Holland
Sunday, October 19 at 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM

Maggie Holland is an English folk singer who has performed with a number of folk bands.
Maggie Holland has been a driving force in the British folk scene since the late 1960s, when she first picked up a guitar in her local Hampshire folk club.
From touring 30,000 miles a year with the blues duo Hot Vultures, to working with the National Theatre, to writing her own acclaimed songs, Maggie’s career has been as diverse as it has been influential.
Her songwriting blends sharp social observation with lyrical warmth — her piece A Place Called England was named Best Song at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2000.
Over the years, Maggie has played with countless groups including the English Country Blues Band, Tiger Moth, Maggie’s Farm, and most recently The Broonzies, while her solo albums have cemented her reputation as both an interpreter of classic material and a writer of songs adopted by the likes of Martin Carthy and June Tabor.
Expect a powerful evening of music that ranges from traditional folk to original compositions and re-imagined classics by the likes of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Billy Bragg and Leon Rosselson — all delivered with Maggie’s trademark clarity, wit and passion.
