The Vapors, the new wave band behind the 1980 hit Turning Japanese, will perform a special matinee show in Reading as part of their 2026 UK tour.

The event, presented by Future Transmissions, features support from Eddie Roxy & The Adjacent Kings and follows the band’s latest album release in early 2025. Wasp In A Jar is their fourth studio album and the second since they reformed in 2016.

Formed in the late 1970s, the band currently consists of original members David Fenton, Steven Smith, and Ed Bazalgette, alongside Michael Bowes and Dan Fenton.

David, the lead singer and songwriter, was a solicitor before the band’s success, while Ed has balanced his musical career with work as a television director on shows such as Doctor Who and Poldark.

Unlike their 2020 album Together, which used more modern production techniques, last year’s Wasp In A Jar was recorded primarily live in the studio to capture a raw, high-energy sound reminiscent of their 1979 debut.

It is described as a blend of punk-influenced power pop and features 14 tracks. The title is taken from a lyric in the song Forever & Ever, which David Fenton has said reflects a sense of high-velocity energy and “bottled-up anger” present in the lyrics.

The songs cover a range of subjects, from social and political commentary to personal reflections, including the track Miss You Girl, which was written about David’s daughter leaving home.

When are The Vapors coming to Reading, and how can I get tickets?

The performance will take place at FaceBar, Ambrose Place, Reading, RG1 7JE, on Sunday 19 April 2026. Doors open at 2pm with the music starting at 2.30pm.

The event has an age restriction of 14+, and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets for the show are available now for £18.20, which includes a booking fee.

They can be purchased online through the official ticket link: https://wegottickets.com/f/15909.

For further information, the venue can be contacted on 01189568188.
