Fresh from their sold-out tours of the UK and Australia earlier this year, Fisherman’s Friends have announced they are going back on the road next year, with a stop in Reading along the way.
The 36-date tour will see the group perform across the country from February through to November 2027, returning to theatres and concert halls nationwide with the trademark humour, camaraderie, and stirring harmonies that have made them one of Britain’s best-loved live acts.
Bound together by lifelong friendship and shared experience for more than 25 years, the Fisherman’s Friends first met on the Platt in their native Port Isaac to raise money for charity, singing the traditional songs of the sea handed down to them by their forefathers.
In 2010, they signed a major record deal and their album Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends went Gold, becoming the first traditional folk act to land a UK top 10 album.
Since then they have been the subject of an ITV documentary, released the hit albums One and All in 2013, Proper Job in 2015, and Sole Mates in 2018, and played to hundreds of thousands of fans at home and abroad. They sang for HM The Queen at her Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, were selected to sing for Prince Charles and Camilla during their 2016 tour of Cornwall, and were honoured with the Good Tradition Award at the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2011.
Standout live performances across their career include the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival, Twickenham Stadium during half-time of England v Australia in front of a crowd of 81,275 fans, Cambridge Folk Festival, Beautiful Days, Sidmouth Folk Week, Looe Music Festival, Costa del Folk in Portugal, the BBC Proms in the Park, and, of course, Reading’s Hexagon Theatre.
The new tour comes as the Cornish group launch the very first Fisherman’s Friends Festival in Cornwall, a three-day celebration of music, maritime heritage, and Cornish culture.
It underlines both the enduring appeal of the band and their commitment to championing Cornwall’s culture, community, and live music scene.
For a group whose remarkable story has inspired two hit feature films and a successful touring stage musical, the new dates mark yet another chapter in an extraordinary journey. 2019 saw the release of Fisherman’s Friends, a movie based on the group’s discovery and signing to a major record label, which became an immediate hit and took nearly 10 million at the box office.
This was followed by the second movie Fisherman’s Friends One And All.
Music fans in Berkshire will now have the chance to experience their powerful live show right in the heart of Reading.
